IAMAW - LOCKHEED 2023 NEGOTIATIONS STRIKE SANCTION VOTE

WHAT IS A STRIKE SANCTION VOTE?

Most simply explained, a "Strike Sanction Vote" is a required administrative action under your IAM Constitution to ensure that should you later reaffirm, by a “Strike Authorization Vote”, the process of receiving approval from the IAM Executive Council and for initiating your strike pay is already in place.

A “Strike Sanction Vote” does not mean you are going on strike! In order to implement a strike action against an employer your IAM Constitution requires that (1) all state and federal notifications be made, (2) a “Strike Sanction Vote” be approved by the affected members, (3) that items (1) and (2) are forwarded to the Executive Council of the IAM to insure compliance and receive authorization, (4) a completion of thorough negotiations between the employer and representatives of your Union, (5) that meetings be held for the affected members to hear the employers proposal and vote “yes” or “no” on ratification of that proposal, and (6) should the affected members reject the employers proposal to them, reaffirm their prior actions with a “Strike Authorization Vote” that must be approved by two thirds (66.7%) of those members voting.

As you can see, authorizing a strike is not a simple process and safeguards to ensure that only the affected members may make that decision after a very thorough procedure has been followed. And remember, it is your decision after the proposal ratification vote whether or not to reaffirm the “Strike Sanction Vote” with a “Strike Authorization Vote”, but strike payments cannot be approved if you did not approve strike sanction.
